Have you Cluttered your own Mac- Speed up Mac now!!

Many of us are obsessed to regularly download applications, games, and other stuff from the Apple Store on our Mac, but hardly ever bother to check them again. Likewise, some of the music freaks do tend to fill up a decent portion of the OS X drive only with their favorite collection of music files. These actions that seem to cause no trouble earlier become the major reasons for bogging down your Mac after a certain period of time.

There are some applications that keep adding bloat on your Mac hard drive and thus need to be checked almost periodically. Some of these are listed below:

iTunes
Your iTunes library is possibly a collection of songs, movies, and podcasts. All of them consume considerable amount of disk space, which causes your Mac to slow down dramatically. You can reclaim space on the OS X drive by deleting songs and videos that you do not need to listen or view again. You can also configure iTunes to hold a limited number of podcasts by applying the preferred settings.

GarageBand
If you are fond of playing instruments, then GarageBand is one music software by Apple that enables you to experiment with highly expressive Touch and Smart Instruments. If this is not the case, then it would only add to the clutter on your Mac hard drive. This is due to tens of hundreds of music samples known as Apple loops stored in its library. You can free up space by navigating to Library > Audio > Apple Loops and then deleting them all at once.
Mail
This is one of the most likely offenders that can fill up your drive in no time. The bulky mail attachments, unwanted messages in your Inbox or Junk folders, and heavy Mail Downloads folder are known to waste a huge amount of disk space. You should regularly empty the Mail Downloads folder of your user account stored within the Library folder. Additionally, keep a check on your Trash and Junk folders on a routine basis.

Trash
Many users are oblivious to the fact that files kept in the Trash bin do consume space on the OS X drive. If you have a habit of trashing files almost frequently, then you should also bother to empty the Trash every time you delete something. It is recommended that you to do it at least once in a day.

Downloads and Documents
The Documents folder may host files created by applications or by users. Likewise, the Downloads folder stores files downloaded through browsers. These folders can become extremely large-sized in due course of time and can easily drag down your Mac. To avoid OS X slowdowns, you should empty them periodically.
